Valencia and Equipo DRT: working together to become the World Design Capital in 2022

Equipo DRT supports the project presented by the Valencian World Design Capital Association to help Valencia compete for the honor of becoming the World Design Capital in 2022.

Valencia has launched its bid to promote and enhance design with the full support of  Equipo DRT. The Valencian textile firm is one of the founding members of the Valencian World Design Capital Association (Associació València Capital Mundial del Disseny). This association, inaugurated on December 17 at the Royal Marina of Valencia, was created to coordinate the city’s bid to become the World Design Capital in 2022. The group highlights the city’s «urban, architectural, and artistic design, along with its innovations in product, interior and graphic design, all of which have allowed Valencia to establish itself as a city with a global reach.»

Nominations will be presented up until March, 2019, with the official candidates to be  announced in June. From that moment on, the World Design Organization, an international non-governmental organization that has dedicated itself to promoting the design profession for sixty years and sponsors the World Day of Industrial Design and the World Design Capital, will visit the nominated cities. The final winner for WDC 2022 will be announced in  October.

Those in charge of announcing Valencia’s candidacy for WDC 2022 last month at the Royal Marina were the mayor of Valencia, Joan Ribó, the president of the executive committee of the Associació València Capital del Disseny, Marisa Gallén, and the strategic directors of the project, Xavi Calvo and Pau Raussell.
